If the outlet pressure of the regulator rises above the set value, the relief type releases excess pressure above the set pressure to the outside, whereas the non-relief type does not.
The relief type is generally selected for use with air. And when a special sealed circuit is used or when fluid leakage into the surrounding atmosphere is not desirable (such as in a clean room), the non-relief type should be selected.
Note that with the non-relief type regulator, the outlet pressure cannot be reduced even if the knob is rotated counterclockwise (the direction in which the outlet pressure setting is released). Consideration should be given to the method of relieving outlet pressure.
Note 1) Even for regulators with a relief mechanism, there is a slight difference between the relief start pressure and the set pressure.
Note 2) The relief function lowers the pressure to the set value by releasing the outlet pressure from the relief hole in the center of the diaphragm to the atmosphere when the outlet pressure becomes higher than the set pressure. Because the relief capacity is small, it is not possible to release the pressure on the machine side or quickly discharge the excess pressure resulting from external forces during cylinder operation.
